2. Which specific monetary allowances for large families are in your country.
A means-tested cash benefit for all families, paid monthly or bimonthly.
Annual amounts per child (2024–2025):
- €1,680 per child (Income Category A)
- €1,008 per child (Income Category B)
- €504 per child (Income Category C)
Income categories are defined by family income and number of children.
For the determination of the amount of the birth allowance, the number of the family’s dependent children is taken into account, as it is formed after the birth of the child, and the amount is paid as follows:
- Two thousand four hundred (2,400.00) euros for the first dependent child in order of birth,
- Two thousand seven hundred (2,700.00) euros for the second dependent child in order of birth,
- Three thousand (3,000.00) euros for the third dependent child in order of birth,
- Three thousand five hundred (3,500.00) euros for the fourth and each subsequent dependent child in order of birth.
Paid in two installments. Income criteria apply.
3. Which specific fiscal deductions for large families are in your country.
There is a tax discount for all families: 900 euros for 1 child, 1120 euros for two children, 1340 for 3 children, 1580 for four children, 1780 for five children and then 220 euros more discount for each child beyond the fifth.
4. Which specific reduced prices on basic supplies for large families are in your country
For electricity bills, there is a new discount scheme, means-tested, for income up to 40.000 euros equivalent (equivalent means that you divide the income with a number which is 1 for one parent plus 1/2 for the second parent plus 1/4 for each child). In some cities, there is a discount scheme for water supply, depending on the number of children and usually on the income – it is not the same all across the country.
5. Which specific benefits are provided by the large families card in your country
Issued by ASPE, the card provides:
- 50% discount on intercity bus travel (KTEL)
- Discounts on Hellenic Train tickets
- Reduced or free entry to museums and archaeological sites
- Private sector discounts (supermarkets, clothing, bookstores, etc.)
- Priority access in certain public services
Benefits vary by region and participating companies.
6. Which specific maternity or paternity benefits for large families are in your country
- Maternity leave: 17 weeks
- Paternity leave: 14 days
- Parental leave: 4 months per parent (2 months paid by the Employment Agency)
No special extensions for large families, but general protections apply.

When buying a new car, one of the taxes (around 1000 euros) is deducted for families with three or more children

- Basic consumptions tariff: water, electricity, gas, etc. is calculated taking into consideration the number of children

With article 40 of law 4646/2019 from 1.1.2020, the reduced VAT rate is applied in baby and child food items and in items for baby safety and protection, i.e. absorbent diapers for babies and child car seats
